The Power of Art: How to use drama techniques in Diversity trainings

Art can a powerful methodology to help learners connect with their emotions, and engage with new, and often, challenging perspectives. Using art in trainings helps participants to experiment, reflect, and transform. Master facilitator, Kelli McLoud Schingen will share drama techniques for facilitating learning and personal development in Diversity and Inclusion and Intercultural trainings. During the presentation, she will introduce a variety of activities, examples include; drama, storytelling, improv theatre, reflective practice and group work. 

This workshop is designed for Diversity and Inclusion practitioners, Intercultural Trainers, and others in Learning and Development who want to expand their facilitation repertoire. No theatre experience required, just an open mind and positive attitude.

About our Guest Speaker:

Kelli McLoud-Schingen brings an extensive and stellar track record as a Diversity and Inclusion expert, specializing in Storytelling and Healing Racism. She has facilitated cultural competence workshops, trainings and dramatic presentations since 1989 for corporate, educational, non-profit and government institutions in the USA and internationally.

She is the past president of SIETAR USA, the founder and Artistic Director of World Stage, and president of KMS Intercultural Consulting. A professional mediator certified by the State of Texas, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Aurora University and a Master of Arts in Cross-Cultural Studies from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. 

Kelli is also a qualified administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), a cross-cultural development measurement tool.  She co-authored the African American Cultural Detective©, an in-depth training tool for business managers and wrote an article entitled, “Prejudice, Bias, and Discrimination” to be included in the Sage Publication, “The Encyclopedia of Intercultural Competence.”

As a master facilitator, Kelli guides participants through a discovery of self and culture, stimulating self-respect and respect of others while bringing about a greater understanding of difference and what role that difference plays in daily communication.
