Volunteer

SIETAR Ireland (SIRE) is an organization of people who recognize the value of an intercultural society, and who are involved in the world of intercultural communication, education, training, and research.

​

​SIRE is one of the newest members of the global SIETAR network and was established in 2008 by longstanding members of SIETAR Europa.

​

SIRE seeks to make people more aware of how culture affects our daily interactions within our community, business, education, and policy-making. Intercultural understanding helps people communicate across their differences and SIRE provides expert information and assistance in intercultural issues.

​

We host events and workshops and offer trainings to promote exchange of ideas and experience in the intercultural field.

Current Positions

Marketing and Communications

​

Hours: Approximately 1 hour per week, plus 1-90 minute monthly team meeting, and attendance at in person and online events

 

Compensation: Unpaid volunteer position

 

Description: SIETAR Ireland is looking for a dynamic volunteer to assist marketing and communications efforts, also interested in intercultural understanding. This position is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing while working an organization committed to advancing intercultural understanding, diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain SIRE social media presence, including scheduling Facebook and LinkedIn updates

  • Assist in planning, writing and managing monthly eNewsletter

  • Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories

  • Designing flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material for major events hosted by

  • SIRE

  • Update the SIRE website when needed

  • Organize and attend monthly steering committee meeting

  • Reach out to the community organizations, general public and donors with the message of our mission and purpose

  • Collaborating with steering committee on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications

 

Qualifications:

  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media industry

  • Education and/or experience in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)

  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Proficiency in Canva and Photoshop highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus

  • An effective communicator, both written and oral

  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts

  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the SIRE and the community we serve

 

Membership Coordinator

 

Hours: Approximately 1 hour per week, plus 1-90 minute monthly team meeting, and attendance at in person and online events

 

Compensation: Unpaid volunteer position

 

Description: SIETAR Ireland is looking for a membership coordinator to act as the liaison between our organization and our members. The membership coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of membership, from serving as the first point of contact for membership related questions to supporting events to recruit new members. You will also be tasked with maintaining records, tracking membership figures, and coordinating with the Treasurer regarding the payment of membership fees.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Handling all questions, information requests, and complaints regarding membership.

  • Processing membership applications, renewals, and resignations.

  • Maintaining and updating membership records.

  • Assisting with member communication activities.

  • Collecting data, tracking membership statistics, and preparing reports.

  • Developing and implementing strategies to recruit new members.

  • Coordinating with the Treasurer to track membership revenue.

  • Preparing membership marketing materials.

 

Qualifications:

  • Highly organized

  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel).

  • An effective communicator, both written and oral

  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts

  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the SIRE and the community we serve

 

Treasurer/Secretary

 

Hours: Approximately 1 hour per week, plus 1-90 minute monthly team meeting, and attendance at in person and online events

 

Compensation: Unpaid volunteer position

 

Description: SIETAR Ireland is looking for a Treasurer to work with our Steering Committee, and is in charge of our financial management and reporting.

​

Responsibilities:

  • Attendance at monthly Steering Committee meetings and report on key financial events and fiscal governance

  • Manage the finances of the organization and administer fiscal matters

  • Provide an annual budget to the members’ for approval as well as other appropriate financial reports

  • Help to develop and oversee the society’s financial policies and procedures

  • Advise on financial implications of strategic and operational plans

  • Present revised financial forecasts based on actual spend

  • Manage bank account

  • Set up appropriate systems for book-keeping, payments, lodgements & petty cash

  • Ensure everyone handling money keeps proper records and documentation

  • Ensure proper records are kept

 

In all of these areas the Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that effective financial systems and procedures have been established, are being consistently followed and are in line with best practice and legal requirements.

​

Qualifications:

Desirable qualities are financial education, precision, time management skills, clear and concise record keeping, financial analysis skills, and a willingness to ask questions. Including:

  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel).

  • An effective communicator, both written and oral

  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts

  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
